Meet Lucky!

Picked up from a cat colony after having been TNRed (Trap-Neuter-Release, note his tipped ear!), Lucky came to A Sanctuary Cafe in June and immediately captivated everyone he met with his unique tabby tail and sweet, soulful eyes. Incredibly charismatic but a bit shy, Lucky charmed us all and built a unique bond with mother-daughter pair Elinor and Bug in his first few weeks.

When he arrived, Lucky didn’t quite know how to play or be social with the other cats. It took some time observing the others, but he eventually overcame his fears and grew to be a fiend with string and kicker toys, dazzling both staff and guests alike with his ability to play all day. He developed a distinctive playing style with Bug (the youngest of our cats who best matched him in energy and endurance), running around together for lengthy wrestling sessions.

Unlike many cats, Lucky liked spending much of his time upside down, seeing the world from a flipped perspective. He encouraged belly rubs and would often flop onto his back when he was really enjoying pets from his human friends. Notorious for fitting himself into unusual and funny positions, Lucky could frequently be spotted sleeping squished inside boxes by our large front windows, soaking in the sun and attention from passersby.

Over time, however, it became clear that while Lucky loved to play with Bug and enjoyed the attention of all staff, he was overwhelmed by the presence of our other cats. We knew it would be best for him to move on and find a new home beyond A Sanctuary Cafe despite how much we loved him.

We’re happy to say that he has made a home with one of our very own staff members! He still loves playing, belly rubs, sleeping in strange positions, and hanging out upside down, but he is much more settled now that he can be his full, unique self without the difficulty of socializing with other cats. We miss him dearly, but are happy to know he’s thriving in a single-cat environment where he gets to bask in all the affections of his new family.

On his last day at the café, Lucky amazed us all by venturing up our vertical space for the first time and trying out the catwalk—a truly special sendoff. He arrived timid and uncertain, but having conquered his fears with us, has left a braver and bolder cat. We feel so lucky (!) to have gotten the opportunity to know and love this wonderful kitty and are excited for his future in his forever home!
